Home Plant descriptions Noel's Garden Vale Robert Percy History
Plumeria or Frangipani is one of the iconic tropical plants. In recent years there have become available some species that are especially suited to our subtropical climate. They feature stunning flowers combined with evergreen leaves when planted in the ground. They do not seem to be effected by rust as the Plumeria rubra and are much faster growing
Plumeria pudica is a very fast growing evergreen frangipani, common names include Hammer leaf frangipani and Everlasting Love. It features deep green foliage and pure white flowers. It flowers throughout spring and summer with iridescent white non-perfumed flowers. It can be grown as a small tree but will give a better display when multi-trunked. It does need staking if planted in a windy area. It can be pruned each year and will respond quickly in the warmer months.
Plumeria pudica pink is a hybrid of Plumeria pudica. It's semi dwarf frangipani that would be suitable as a small specimen tree or even as screening in conjunction with other tropical species. It has soft pink flowers that in shade become darker pink. The perfume is delicious and the the flowering period is throughout spring and summer. My plant is subject to strong westerly winds with salt laden air and it is thrived. Highly recommended.
We have been growing Plumeria sericifolia for about 10 years, but have just begun producing them in numbers. They are very hardy with deep green glossy leaves and bunches of open white flowers. It is a semi dwarf plant about 3-4 metres and maintains most of it's leaves through winter.
The dark green leaves and pure white flowers with a golden center make this a feature of many gardens. They can be slow to grow so planting larger plants is a good idea.
